Welcome to the December edition of Scanlines, the newsletter of The Enright Company, Professional Video/Multimedia Representatives, 1801-I Parkcourt Place Suite 100, Santa Ana , CA 92701 (888) 334-7773.

Notes from Logan

by Logan Enright, CTS

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Many thanks for your support throughout the year. Our lives are richer and happier due to our association with you – our valued colleagues. As we close out this year we are reminded that work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?

Go ahead relax a little this end of year. The commercial AV industry is arguably one of the hardest businesses out there – why not get to know the family this end of year? Speaking of the family, I am told a good marriage is like a casserole: only those involved actually know what goes into it!

Why the one-liners? A good friend commented this newsletter, Scanlines, could use some humor. So embedded in this issue are a few one liners. Enjoy. We are told a leading authority is anyone who has guessed right more than once. Also, Samuel Butler said all animals, except man, know that the principle business of life is to enjoy it. And remember, all mothers are working mothers.

We will be hosting a clinic on projector edge blending on Jan 22nd in southern California - location is TBD as of this writing. As you might know, RGB Spectrum has rolled out their EBU series of products. These compact units carry a list price of $4K (or only 2K if sold with RGB Spectrum’s MediaWall series video wall processors). There are two rules for success: 1.) Don't tell all you know.

But seriously, we would like to acknowledge contributions by three regional sales managers from companies we represent who are coincidentally moving on. Chris Wallace has announced is leaving RGB Spectrum after ten years. Chris was one of the best in the business and will be sorely missed by many. Cliff Wernet has departed Liberty Wire and Cable after a similar tenure of ten years – Cliff was a huge part of our success with Liberty and a great friend. Good luck, Cliff. Finally Rolene Owens was with Tightrope Media Systems, one of our digital signage lines, and has moved on. We wish Rolene best wishes in her future endeavors.

We have completed our Fall Marketing Events – a series of three golf tournaments: LA in September, Berkeley in October and Scottsdale was November. We thank our manufacturers who sponsored these – I think I speak for all 120 integrators and consultants who attended when I say never go to bed angry, stay awake and plot your revenge.

Enjoy!

APC Sells 10 Millionth UPS System
Hosts Pro AV Integrators at Rhode Island HQ

by Stephen McNeil

APC Smart-UPS® XL protects your AV programming and other data by supplying reliable, network-grade power and scalable runtime in tower or rack-mount form factors. Customers can configure up to 10 matching battery packs for runtimes exceeding 24 hours, if needed. Typical applications requiring longer runtime include critical application servers and storage, IP and PBX based voice networks, and enterprise network switches and hubs. Included PowerChute® management software provides AV and IT administrators the comfort of safe system shutdown and advanced UPS management.

Additional manageability is available through the SmartSlot, an internal accessory slot that allows installation of optional accessories to enhance performance..Engineered with the same standards as the award-winning Smart-UPS, with over 10 million installed, the Smart-UPS XL adds the advantage of unsurpassed runtime capability for those business applications that demand continual uptime.

A UPS selector configuration page can be found at: www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm. This handy tool allows customers, integrators and consultants to choose the best UPS for the power load, physical environment and price point. I wondered why the Frisbee was getting bigger, and then it hit me. This configuration site is another support tool for our customers of APC!

APC hosted key sales management people at their Kingston , Rhode Island headquarters this fall. The long weekend trip was intended to foster relations with key integrators and show them the complete line of power products from the industry’s largest power manufacturer. Three Enright Company dealers attended the event and were unanimously enthused with the weekend. It is easy to see why APC AV is the undisputed leader in power products!

Casio Superslim™ Projectors
Not Just For Road Warriors Anymore!

by John Harmyk

Small shiny objects –Casio is known for them. Everything from very cool watches to their SuperSlim™, series of projectors. Word is getting out about the SuperSlim™ line, www.superslimprojector.com, with product reviews which have appeared in print over the past few months.

One of the first reviews comes from Laptop Magazine in its November issue. In it’s review of the Super Color XJ-SC215, Laptop Magazine stated…“This ultra-thin DLP projector produces a bright and colorful image along with plenty of bells and whistles…Most importantly, the XJ-SC215’s ability to reproduce accurate c
olors makes this model stand out from other DLP projectors, and put it on a par with LCD projectors.”. Complete review details can be found at www.laptopmag.com.

The other big news from Casio is that many models now include serial control (RS232) and inverse image for ceiling mount ability. This means that these very thin and portable projectors are not just for road-warriors anymore! It's not who you know, it's whom you know. Now several models can be installed on the ceiling and with that nice low profile – perfect for those 8’ high installations.

In other Casio news: they have introduced dealer training modules to provide information on why to buy, key features and benefits, target users and up/cross sell strategies in a self paced learning environment and include a quiz. I don't want buns of steel. I want buns of cinnamon. Course modules are available for the Super Color XJ-SC215 and XJ-SC210 plus the XJ-S32 and more modules will be available in the future. Get started by visiting www.cyberscholar.com and register, there is no cost. When registering, on the “Employment Info Page”, select “Retailer List”, then select “C” and select “Casio Dealer”.

Stantron Racks Has
Strong Growth With Enright Company

by Dave Fahrbach, CTS

The Enright Company has been selling Stantron Racks, www.stantronracks.com, formerly known as APW, almost continuously since 1986 – when many of our sales partners were in grade school! We are proud to announce we had a very strong year in sales – up 55% for the year!

One of our many fleet jobs, in addition to Technicolor and ASU, was the installation of its Stantron Pioneer Racks at Dial Global’s (DG) radio network facility in Valencia , California . Pioneer racks and accessories were sold through Pacific Radio, located in Burbank , CA. Dial Global specified Stanton ’s Pioneer Rack and included Stantron’s rotating PowerOptions® vertical power strips, repositionable magnetic lighting products, and cost saving cooling features.

Dial Global is radio's largest full-service independent radio network
providing programming to radio stations nationwide via satellite link. Owned by Triton Media Group, LLC with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Nashville and Valencia, Dial Global provides national advertising sales representation to more than 60 independent producers and syndicates, in addition to Dial Global's own programming and barter services from its sister company, MJI Interactive.

Available in more colors, with better seismic specs and more power choices, Stantron is owned by Mayville Products Corp, Mayville , Wisconsin . It is privately held by Dan Eder and his brother who are passionate about the enclosure business.
